Australia’s top bouldering site has just announced plans to open to climbers and mountaineers.
The bouldering and climbing site at Rockcliff near Perth will be open for climbing, but only for the duration of a week, and will remain closed for the rest of the year.
“I think it’s a good time for the sport to be open in Australia, as we’re not really used to climbing on the same sites in the country,” said Rockcliffs owner and former mountaineer David Fisk.
“We have some very large peaks to climb, and if you want to climb up to them you’ll need a permit.”
The boulders are part of a national initiative to build a new national monument for rock climbing in Australia.
A total of 5,500 new boulders have been built over the past five years and a new climbing wall is being built.
Rockclills new climbing and climbing infrastructure project will create more than 30 new sites.
A new bouldering area in Rockclocks north-west Perth.
“We’ve been looking for new and exciting places to build climbing facilities,” said Fisk, “and we’ve come up with the idea of a new bouldery and bouldering park in the north-western part of the park, which we’ll call Rockclicks North-West.”
There are a lot of beautiful rock climbing out there, and I think there’s a lot more potential for it to be used and developed in the future.
“The site is part of Rockclips north-east region, which includes the South Coast, the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands, the North Coast, and the Gold Coast.”
The project is a huge undertaking,” said Dr Sarah Rimmer, Head of Public Programs at Rock Cliffs.”
It’s been really difficult to get approval for it, because there are quite a few places that aren’t really suitable for bouldering, and so there’s been a lot to work on to make sure that it works.
“The new Rockclix park, Rockclics North-Western, will include two new boulderers, two new routes and a rock climbing area.
